The Oktoberfest is a beer party and a product fair originally celebrated in Munich, in Bavaria, and spread over different parts of the world. In Munich, Oktoberfest begins in mid-September and ends two weeks later, on the first Sunday of October - hence the name Oktoberfest (German, "Oktober" means October, and "Fest" feast or festival). In Brazil the festival began to be held in 1976 in Itapiranga / SC, and is now held in Blumenau / SC, Santa Cruz do Sul / RS, small church / RS, Rondon / PR, Ponta Grossa / PR, St. George d 'West / PR among other cities.
The finish and at the same time highlight of the festival was the horse race, with the presence of the royal family of Bavaria. The great success made it marked another party for October of the following year, and so began the tradition.
With the emigration of Germans, the most popular festival in Germany spread across the planet. Today there are Oktoberfest in several countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, United States, Hong Kong, Italy, Vietnam, among others.
In Brazil, the Oktoberfest has arrived with the culture of German immigrants. In the early twentieth century, various societies, as SOGIPA of Porto Alegre, has promoted the Oktoberfest
